Carney Leads Trade Shift From US, to China, India, Australia

U.S. President Donald Trump’s imposition of steep tariffs on all trading partners has spurred the rise of new trade alliances that are beginning to reframe global deals away from the United States.

Washington’s closest neighbor, Canada, was a key driver of the shakeup forced by current White House officials.

Today we learned that Prime Minister Mark Carney will travel to Delhi and Canberra in March to diversify the country and woo friendlier “middle power” trading partners.

In mid-January, Carney was in Beijing to negotiate “preliminary agreements” on selected goods worth $3 to $7 billion – selling agricultural exports such as canola oil, lobsters, crabs and peas in exchange for Limited number of electric vehicles (49,000 this year, rising to 70,000 by around 2030).

Meanwhile, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese said over the weekend that Carney would visit Canberra in the same month (March) to address federal parliament.
