Robert Weissenberg will become the Brooklyn Museum’s new senior curator of contemporary art, filling a position that has been vacant since 2023.
“I’m delighted,” Weisenberg said in an email art news. “I loved the museum—I used to go there every week and sketch in the galleries, and then alternate between visiting the botanical gardens and the public library next door. To say Brooklyn is full of incredible artists is an understatement. I’m eager to get to know them better and make the museum feel like home to them. I also enjoy spending time with visitors in the galleries. The energy of the museum is extraordinary, and I want to build on that.”

Weissenberg is currently the curator of contemporary art at the Clark Art Institute in Williamstown, Massachusetts, where his projects include the first-ever museum survey of Lin Mae Said and exhibitions for artists such as Eddie Rudolph Aparicio and Candace Williams.
When he was hired by the agency, his appointment was made by new york timeswhich noted that the museum had previously devoted much of its efforts to Impressionism and other movements of the 19th century. He said at the time that he was focused on “putting his finger on the scale” by showcasing artists from different backgrounds working in different mediums, and he did just that.
His position at the Brooklyn Museum was previously held by Eugenie Tsai, who left the museum in 2023 after 15 years in the position.
