bridgetonThe glorious fourth season kicks off with a spectacular masquerade. In a goosebump-inducing montage, we see all of our favorite characters putting the finishing touches on their costumes: Claudia Jessie as Eloise Bridgerton as the sparkling Joan of Arc; and Ruth Gemmell as her mother Lady Violet Bridgerton, dressed as the enchanting Titania, queen of the fairies. a midsummer night’s dream; Her son, Luke Newton’s Colin, is decked out in pirate gear; his new wife, Nicola Coughlan’s Penelope, also wears a matching outfit; and Adjoa Andoh’s Lady Danbury plays gilded Zeus. We then catch a glimpse of an attractive stranger wearing a jeweled silver mask. She looked excited but also very nervous.
The new drama’s heroine, Sophie Baek (the radiant Ha Ye-rim), is the maid of the Iron Widow, Mrs. Araminta Gang (Katie Leung), who also happens to be her stepmother. When the latter sneaks off to a ball with her two daughters, the snarky Rosamund (Mao) and the hapless Posy (Visa Bella), Sophie borrows a sparkling dress, dons a mask she sewed for her stepsisters, and stalks them in secret. There, while admiring the overall splendor, she catches the eye of her unmarried second son, Benedict Bridgerton, played by Luke Thompson. However, at midnight, she hurried away, and Benedict was fascinated and determined to pursue this mysterious beauty.
Later in the season, when he enlists the help of a resourceful maid—who, out of necessity, borrowed some of his sister’s clothes while he was staying at the country house—he doesn’t realize that she and the Lady in Silver are one and the same.
All the costumes – from Sophie’s unforgettably stunning look and her conservative uniform, to Benedict’s smart suits; Araminta, Rosamund and Percy’s glamor in full swing; Violet’s appearance becomes softer and more sensual when she falls in love with Lady Danbury’s brother, Lord Anderson (Daniel Francis) – John Glaser. The Emmy Award-winning costume designer, who was also behind last season’s elaborate looks and previously collaborated with Ellen Mirojnick on Season 1’s costumes, has outdone himself once again.
As the first half of Season 4 airs on Netflix on January 29, Glaser and his junior designer Henry Wilkinson tell us about Benedict’s story Shakespeare’s love– Inspired by the style inspiration of Anna Wintour, young Bridgerton is becoming one to watch.
