Hasina was sentenced to 26 years in prison for four corruption cases between November 27 and December 1 last year. Her daughter Saima Wazed Putul and son Sajeeb Wazed Joy, as well as sister Sheikh Rehana and niece Tulip were also convicted in one of the four cases each.
The ACC filed six separate cases with its Dhaka Comprehensive Zone Office-1 from January 12 to 14 last year, alleging irregularities in the allocation of plots for the Purbachal New City project.
The ACC submitted six chargesheets to the Dhaka Metropolitan Senior Special Judge’s Court on March 25 last year, and Hasina was named as a co-accused in all six cases.
On July 31 of the same year, 29 people including Hasina, Rehana, Joy, Putul, Bobby, Tulip and Azmina were charged in their respective cases.
The anti-corruption agency alleged that Hasina, in collusion with senior Lahok officials, illegally acquired six plots – each with 10 mantras – for herself, Puttur, Joy, Rehana, Bobby and Azmina in the diplomatic area of Sector 27 of the Purbachal New City project, even though they were not eligible under existing regulations.
ACC documents say Tulip influenced Hasina to acquire land for her mother, brother and sister.
