A Sunny Saturday With On’s Latest Design Innovation: the SenseTec Studio Legging

As a big fan of On, I’ve been running in the brand’s sneakers for nearly a decade, and I’m more familiar with its running shoes than its apparel. Still, given the brand’s reputation for innovation, I had high hopes for these leggings and the design technology that powers them, promising a soft, smooth feel when worn and enough stretch for low-impact sports.

To me, the most outstanding thing about any new leggings is fit and feel first, performance second. I mentally go through my checklist to determine what works and what doesn’t: What’s the length and overall cut? I like the 7/8 short because I’m only 5’1″ and don’t usually do side pockets because if I’m running I’d rather keep my phone in the jacket (if it’s a studio class I don’t wear anything to work out in). I don’t like anything super high-waisted, preferring fabrics that are soft and almost non-existent – I want a second skin, not plastic wrap.

They say first impressions are everything, and it didn’t take long for me to understand what SenseTec Studio leggings were all about. Like Kami in her tripod headstand, I found these leggings to be perfectly balanced: light but not light-as-air, stretchy but not too baggy, and comfortable from the get-go. Working out in the hot sun at 1pm was the ultimate litmus test: I got a little sunburned, but at least not overheated.

The leggings have a phone pocket that I barely noticed, and the 23-inch inseam hits right at the ankle (just how I like it). The high waist puckers a bit when seated, but this causes little distraction when trying to stand upside down (whipping wind, however, is another story).
