From celebrities to editors moving between shows, five brands have always dominated: Nour Hammour, Arma, Toteme, Khaite and Yves Salomon. While each offers a range of winter classics, this season’s highlights are clear: plush shearlings, buttery leathers and bold animal prints, blended with plenty of down coats.
The beauty of a coat is its versatility. It can make a look understated and sophisticated, or it can make a loud enough statement that the jacket becomes the entire outfit. Nordstrom fashion director Rickie De Sole seemed to have taken a page out of Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s style book, wearing a leopard print top by Arma paired with a black turtleneck, beige skirt and black leather boots. This is minimalist maximalism at its best. Meanwhile, Lisa Aiken, fashion magazine As her own executive fashion director, she stayed true to her signature, opting for Khaite’s sleek leather funnel-neck jacket, light-wash jeans and pointed-toe black boots. The final look is minimalist with impact. What these two looks prove is that when the outer layers are strong, you only need a few essentials to make the orchestra sing.
