Eric Dane is best known for playing Dr. Mark “McSteamy” Sloan on the ABC drama Grey’s AnatomyHe died Thursday at the age of 53 from complications of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig’s disease).
Dane also stars as real estate developer and patriarch Cal Jacobs in the HBO series Euphoriawho went public with his diagnosis in the last year of his life, told people April 2025: “I am grateful to have my loving family by my side as we begin a new chapter. I am blessed to be able to continue working and look forward to returning to Euphoria next week. “
Dane was born and raised in San Francisco and moved to Los Angeles in 1993, where he had a few guest roles on sitcoms including saved by bell, Roseanneand Married…with children before entering the public eye with a recurring role on the ABC medical series Gideon Crossing And the WB wizardry drama Charmed. Dane’s film career began in 2000 with a role in the independent drama basketcontinue to include parts in X-Men: The Last Stand, Marley and me, Valentine’s Day,etc.
