Are you perhaps familiar with the Grey’s Studio brand? Maybe not yet, but soon you will be, along with the name Emily Gray. Driven by a strong desire to produce high-quality clothing with integrity, the Central Saint Martins graduate decided to create his own eponymous brand in 2024. Her first collection, launching in fall 2024, consists of 12 pieces, all knitwear. “Creating a brand in today’s climate requires real intention; every decision feels important,” Gray said during an appointment in the press gallery. “From the beginning, I had a strong interest in menswear, with a focus on quality, sophistication and practicality, with knitwear at the heart of the practice. I think a lot about longevity and how pieces can be preserved in a wardrobe over time.”
The brand continues to expand, adding twill and leather fabrics to create a more complete wardrobe for the everyday woman. It’s even become a favorite among the IYKYK fashion crowd last year, with New York City’s First Lady Rama Duwaji wearing a Grey’s Studio knitted sweater and skirt for a magazine feature, and actress Uma Thurman wearing a knitted dress on a recent cover. The brand is also popular in small independent boutiques around the world. Outline’s Margaret Austin and Hannah Rieke told Vogue in 2025, “Emily (of Gray Studio) uses the most beautiful fabrics and her collections are truly timeless, which I think really resonates with our shoppers.”
So what makes this brand so special? First and foremost, Gray focuses on creating wardrobes for women who love functional clothing with a sense of ultra-luxe style. “I’m working on couture pieces and their construction, hoping to take those ideas and make them more relaxed and comfortable to wear,” the designer said. A silk chenille knit dress mimics this structure but adds a touch of softness, balancing style and functionality. The Gray version of the trouser suit is a soft moleskin bomber jacket and trousers perfect for any occasion.
