Since Matthieu Blazy’s debut at the brand, the brand has rekindled Coco Chanel’s love of suits or button-down shirts borrowed from menswear (those Charvet shirts are still on everyone’s mind). The good news is, no matter who he dresses, Blazy’s designs tend to stay grounded—and in the process, he’s redefining what Chanel is. Tonight, it looked like a black grained tuxedo jacket with satin lapels, a white poplin pleated blouse, bejeweled chains, and Chanel sunglasses.
“The starting point is restraint and intention,” says Lamar’s stylist and FashionNarrated by Carlos Nazario, Special Style Director Fashion. “It’s about letting his presence precede him, rather than making a big fashion statement. Confident without being overdone, that’s the way he’s been thinking about clothes in general lately.”

Sanchez echoed the sentiment. “We started looking at different ideas and silhouettes for the gown, but ultimately, he wanted to go very classic.” Lamar has yet to wear a strictly classic tuxedo to the awards show, but Sunday’s event felt like the right place to start—Sanchez explained that Chanel was the only brand they considered.
Heading into the awards show, Lamar was the most nominated artist of the night, having won the award with ” GNX, “TV Off” won Best Rap Song, and SZA’s “luther” won her second consecutive Rap Song of the Year award. By the end of the night, he had won a total of 27 awards in his career, officially making him the most awarded rapper of all time, surpassing Jay-Z’s record of 25 awards.
