14 of Amal Clooney’s Best Vintage Looks to Date

Amal Clooney is no stranger to vintage gowns. For the 2026 Golden Globe Awards (her first awards show appearance in a decade), the human rights barrister chose a reimagining of a red pleated column dress from Pierre Balmain’s 1957 fall/winter haute couture collection. It wasn’t her only classic look of the night: At the Netflix afterparty, she wore a green sequined minidress from Versace’s Spring 2022 collection. (Memorably, the likes of Dua Lipa, Naomi Campbell and Emily Ratajkowski walked the runway.)

In fact, Clooney often flies the retro flag high on the red carpet. Take Cannes 2025, for example, when she wore a black Dior dress from the John Galliano era, or last year’s Venice Film Festival, when she caused a stir in a purplish-pink Jean-Louis Scherrer dress from Autumn/Winter 1995.

Vintage style has become increasingly popular on the red carpet in recent years, but Amal has been wearing classic fashion long before the current trend took hold, opting for a dazzling Yves Saint Laurent outfit from 1981 when she attended the Berlin International Film Festival in 2016. In 2019, she also impressed in a Jean-Louis Scherrer one-shoulder gown designed by Stephane Rolland at the Prince’s Trust Dinner at Buckingham Palace. William Vintage is helmed by Marie Blanchet, who now runs Mon Vintage.

When it comes to workwear, Amal has an enviable collection of ’60s coats and dresses, from Balenciaga to Courrèges, as well as two-piece suits from the likes of Christian Dior. Always exuding elegance, the mother-of-two shows us how to rock vintage style for both day and night.
