Asia medical waste container market to jump 7.6% by 2034 as healthcare infra expands

Infectious diseases, increased hospitalizations and medical tourism will result in more waste being generated in the region.

Polaris Market Research said the medical waste containers market in Asia Pacific is expected to grow at a compound average growth rate (CAGR) of 7.60% from 2025 to 2034, owing to the expanding medical infrastructure.

The research firm added that infrastructure is expanding in China, India and Japan.

Polaris Market Research said government initiatives to improve medical waste management, such as China’s Medical Waste Management Regulations 2020 and India’s Biomedical Waste Management Rules, will drive market growth in this region.

It added that rising rates of infectious diseases, rising hospitalizations and growth in medical tourism will lead to increased waste volumes and demand for medical waste containers in Asia.

Globally, the market size is US$2.24b in 2024 and is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate of 5.94% from 2025 to 2034, reaching a size of US$3.99b.

By region, Europe held the largest market share at 38.82% in 2024 due to stringent regulations in the region.

According to Polaris Market Research, the demand for medical waste containers by 2034 includes chemotherapy containers, biohazardous waste, sharps waste, and resource conservation and recycling containers.

At the same time, the company said that the integration of artificial intelligence (AI) with medical waste containers is still in its early stages, and that AI technology is expected to enhance smart waste management capabilities.
