New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani and Rama Duwaji Matched in Sleek Black at His Swearing In

Minutes after the ball dropped in Times Square, marking the start of 2026, Zohran Mamdani was sworn in as New York City’s new mayor at an abandoned subway station near City Hall. For the intimate ceremony, which included a handful of journalists and his close family, the mayor opted for a black velvet suit paired with a slim-fitting long jacket, paired with a white shirt and a herringbone tie delicately embroidered with four four-petal flowers.

His wife, artist Rama Duwaji, also made a statement in a matching asymmetrical funnel-neck wool coat, knee-length black skirt and pointed-toe boots with lace-up detail at the back (possibly from a Miista, proving the First Lady’s Gen-Z fashion bona fides). Duwaji has already shown a love for bold gold jewellery, and the midnight ceremony proved to be a perfect occasion. Duwaji paired her black top with sculptural earrings and a bunch of gold bangles.
