Celebrities were divided over the last year when it came to glasses. Some people prefer small sunglasses, while others wear oversized sunglasses. But come summer, we notice that big sunglasses take over. Irina Shayk strolled around Cannes wearing a pair of shield-shaped sunglasses, while Amal Clooney stuck to her favorite square shades.
This year, stars are embracing aviators, shields, and wraparound shades in a variety of styles. Bottega Veneta is proving to be a popular choice among the plus-size camp, with Teyana Taylor and Miley Cyrus both testing the brand’s frames. Balenciaga’s black shield counts Rihanna and Rosalía as fans – the latter wearing a bejeweled headpiece by Pierpaolo Piccioli. Margot Robbie went retro and wore a pair of Celines from the Phoebe Philo era.
Some people prefer inverted frames. Earlier this month, Jennifer Lawrence opted for statement accessories, styling a cheetah-print Prada bag and a colorful striped scarf, paired with a pair of Dior glasses with lenses pointed toward her forehead. Andie MacDowell wore a similar look for Max Mara at the Cannes Film Festival.
Below, we take a look back at the oversized sunglasses that will dominate celebrity fashion in 2025.
