How Saie Reimagined the Clean Setting Spray

Radiance was the name of the makeup game at Kallmeyer’s Spring/Summer 2026 show. It’s the work of makeup artist James Boehmer, who used Saie’s Slip Tint Concealer and Setting Powder to create a velvety, glowy base. Apply the blush powder high for a lifted effect and wake up the cheeks, and give lips a lacquered effect with the help of Glossybounce Lip Oil. The thing about glow, however, is that you have to be very careful with its wear and tear; if you’re not careful, it can become greasy over time. Luckily, Boehmer had a few top-secret bottles of the unreleased Saie CitySet setting spray on hand. Nowadays, this magical formula is only available in Fashion reader.

Since the show’s looks centered around skin texture—a multi-dimensional effect achieved through matte, glossy and glossy finishes, selectively placed to sculpt and shape the skin with light—Boehmer wanted to ensure those finishes were not compromised. “Perfect dimension comes from carefully applying the right makeup to the right areas, and the way you apply your makeup can often disrupt this subtle effect,” he says. “A lot of setting sprays feel heavy and almost like glue on the skin, ultimately bringing all those details together.” The first thing he noticed about the CitySet version, however, was its ultra-fine, weightless mist. “Many times, how Setting spray actually says a lot about how it will ultimately look on your skin. “

The properties Boehmer mentioned explain why Saie decided to launch a setting spray in the first place. According to Saie founder and CEO Lane Crowell, this is the product her community needs most. “I was thinking about how full and enriching our clients’ days are, and I wanted something that could keep up from the first meeting in the morning to dinner and dancing in the evening,” she says.

  • Why we love it: Designed for 16 hours of wear, Saie’s CitySet Setting Spray extends the life of your makeup and contains no toxic or irritating ingredients. “Our goal was to find a formula that would prevent makeup from fading, smudging and melting throughout the day,” said Saie founder and CEO Lane Crowell. “We wanted it to feel lightweight, comfortable and hydrating, but never greasy.”
  • Main ingredients: Hydrolyzed corn starch; propylene glycol; glycogen; citrus extract
  • size: 95 ml; 30 ml

The problem with traditional styling sprays is that they often contain harsh ingredients or create a sticky, gel-like mist that’s harmful to both the skin and the environment. “They rely on aerosols and synthetic film formers, which can be heavy, irritating, and cause breakouts,” Crowell continues. To this end, perfecting the delivery of spray is one of the brand’s main focuses. Saie has been investing in the product for five of its six years since its launch; Crowell notes that they tested more than 10 options before arriving at the perfect composition. The end result is a non-aerosol, ultra-fine, continuous mist that skips chemical propellants entirely for complete control, even application and fast absorption.

True to Saie’s philosophy of “cleanliness and performance,” this product not only feels elegant when used, but is also packed with skin-friendly ingredients. The star ingredient is hydrolyzed cornstarch, which mimics synthetic high-performance polymers to maintain the look for 16 hours. Moisturizers in it leave skin with a fresh glow, while citrus extract soothes and protects against environmental stressors like pollution and UV radiation. Of course, it’s also made with damaged skin in mind: It’s dermatologist-tested and suitable for all skin types, especially sensitive, dry and acne-prone skin, according to Crowell.

I’ve been secretly testing this setting spray since September, and I can confidently say that it’s been worth the wait. I liken how it feels on the skin to that of a facial mist; the formula delivers a fine, extremely even mist that never ruins your makeup. Not too drying, not too hydrating, and somewhere in between, perfect for enhancing natural glow while blending facial products into one. “When you’re building up your beautiful complexion, layer by layer, layer by layer, you want to make sure that styling products don’t disrupt the good balance you’ve created,” adds Boehmer. CitySet helped – whether it was in the heat of late summer, the chill of early winter in New York City, or everywhere in between, it served me well on my girls’ trip to Greece.

“Ultimately, we hope CitySet will prove that clean beauty can work at its highest level and support anyone’s lifestyle,” Crowell continued. “Our north star has always been to actually improve your skin when you use our products. The fact that we do that with a setting spray is a game changer.”
