12 of the Best ’90s Movies to Lose Yourself in This Weekend

See, they just made movies better in the ’90s.

While today’s movies are filled with sequels, remakes, and endless discussions, the best films of the 1990s were, for the most part, truly original films. Rather than being watched once, written a terse Letterboxd review, and forgotten within three days, 90s movies exist on beloved VHS tapes played over and over again until the costumes and most quotable lines are practically imprinted in the brain.

What happens when you bring two weirdos together and cast them in a David Lynch movie? watch wild heart Find out. The film tells the story of lovers Lula Fortune (Laura Dern) and sailor Ripley (Nicolas Cage), who are separated after the sailor is imprisoned for killing a man who attacked him with a knife. Two years later, Lula picked him up, handed him a snakeskin jacket, and took him to see the thrash metal band Powermad. Since this is a Lynch film, explaining the rest of the plot would be a pointless exercise, but expect plenty of violence, stylish surrealism, and a road movie that shocks and delights in equal measure.

death becomes her (1992)
