Nipple necklaces, while admittedly a little weird, aren’t actually new. At his spring 1998 show, Thierry Mugler sent model Erica Vanbriel down the catwalk in a goddess-like sheer black dress dangling from her nipple rings. “Thierry said I have a dress for you and I’m going to hang it on your nipples,” Van Brill told signature 2023.
Today, piercings are no longer necessary. Collina Strada’s Hillary Taymour made her mark on the Spring 2023 runway show when she draped a pale pink dress with daisy-shaped nipple attachments. For the 2026 Grammy Awards, Chappell Roan enlisted Mugler to create a burgundy version of the dress that featured prosthetic nipples. Now, Lizzo is proving with her nipple necklace that pierced dresses are here to stay.
