5 Ways to Style ’90s Cropped Jeans

After months of hiding under heavy socks and boots, freeing our ankles can be said to be best Feel. We’re excited to embrace it this spring, thanks to one of the season’s most wearable denim trends: cropped jeans.

The ’90s-inspired silhouette is making a comeback, but this time it feels decidedly more modern. Designers moved away from snug pipe cuts in favor of more roomy proportions, from loose or straight cuts to sculptural barrel-leg shapes, many with oversized cuffs. On and off the catwalk, brands like Khaite, Chloé and Bottega Veneta are championing cropped denim, while contemporary brands like Jamie Haller and Agolde are offering equally covetable silhouettes.

Part of the appeal of cropped jeans is their versatility. Perfect for in-between weather, cropped jeans pair well with lightweight jackets and long-sleeved shirts, and they can also be paired with a simple vest once the temperatures warm up. They also happen to be one of the easiest denim styles to style or dress down: seemingly perfect with micro wedges and low heels, but equally chic with ballet flats or slim sandals. This is how we dress now.

Khaite’s ultra-thick-cuff Boyle jeans are sure to be a favorite this spring. Balance the heavy proportions of your hips with a loose-fitting shirt and low-profile ballet flats.
