Days after the Met Gala, DiPesa insisted the festivities should continue — in true Greek fashion. So the London-based brand teamed up with SoHo’s soon-to-open restaurant Selene to host a Friday night extravaganza.
For designer Dimitra Petsa, it’s a no-brainer. “I love the idea that this is my first Met Gala and this is their first gala, so it’s all a first,” Pesa told Fashion During cocktail hour. “There’s also Mediterranean food on the menu, so it’s a nod to my heritage and Greek culture.”
While the food conveyed brand synergy, the restaurant’s geometric interior provided the perfect backdrop for those wearing Di Petsa’s signature hand-draped “wet look” pieces, which were also seen on model Ashley Graham and actress Laura Harrier just days before.
In addition to the red carpet, Pesha’s work also features in a new exhibition of costume art. “If you work in fashion and are studying design, the Met Gala is always something you dream about. It’s like the Olympics of fashion,” Petsa added. “I studied art first and then fashion. So Fashion is art The theme is perfect for me. In a sense, it was serendipity. “
As guests took their seats at the banquet, what started as cocktail chit-chat began to segue into deeper discussions. Immediately, the dishes fell one after another. Think: homemade bread and pita with classic hummus, taramasalata and whipped red pepper sauce, hamachi and tavraki crudos, tuna tartare, caviar-topped tiropita, grilled octopus and Greek salad — and those are just the appetizers.
This was a fruitful and enriching conversation. “I think when you do a fashion event, it’s really great to have a dinner party. You’re nourishing people, you’re talking to people, you’re actually getting to know them,” Petsa said.
Her mission was undoubtedly accomplished – everyone left satisfied, well fed, and with a new friend or two in tow.
