French designer Roland Mouret has a pivotal role in British fashion. Not only is he credited with Victoria Beckham’s fashion education, but he’s also perhaps the only person who convinced Kate Middleton to mildly violate royal etiquette. Think of the thigh-slit Ella gown worn by Catherine, Princess of Wales, to a black-tie dinner at Claridge’s in 2012; the sliced plunging neckline dress by Nansen she chose for the SportsAid 40th anniversary celebration in 2016; or the off-the-shoulder number she wore to the premiere. However, while Mouret is known for his tailored tailoring, he has also become a part of the Princess’s everyday work wardrobe over the years. Yesterday afternoon, Kate Middleton visited the University of East London to attend the Foundations for Life conference, wearing a Mouret high-waisted suit, a silk shirt-style Mouret jumpsuit and toffee-colored Ralph Lauren high heels. She added Daniella Draper jewelry, including a mini hoop and monogram necklace with a heart charm. The tailoring options, crafted from the designer’s signature stretch cady fabric, provide the princess with enough freedom of movement to engage with the young children and families who gather in the nursery setting of the university’s Early Education Department.
