Since most big-name brands are already well represented on the steps of the Met, it’s usually indie brands and vintage pieces that take center stage here. Hailey Bieber, Kim Kardashian and Hunter Schafer wore a Dilara Fındıkoğlu bustier three-piece; Paloma Elsesser wore a 1997 Maison Margiela dress-style bustier; and Rihanna made her debut at Ann Demeulemeester’s maternity show after last year’s gala.
Another key difference between the main event and its spin-offs is that hems tend to be higher and fabrics become more sheer, as celebrities move away from the high-concept outfits that often prevent them from sitting down to dinner in favor of something more liberating: naked. Then again, given that the 2026 Met Gala itself is an ode to that, the question is how far an after-party look can go before it violates Instagram’s guidelines.
