I was so excited for my high school friend Jack when he proposed to his incredible girlfriend Katherine in our hometown. But after the invitations went out, my responses confirmed, and the guest list was casually discussed, I made a shocking discovery. Their wedding put me in the same room as my childhood bully for the first time since I was 18.
I was bullied mercilessly from elementary school to high school by the same girl, let’s call her Sarah. It started with the standard stuff — my glasses being smashed and stuffed into a locker — and then turned into a kind of psychological warfare involving sinister voicemails and malicious rumor-mongering. I’d like to say that the experience made me stronger, or that her cruelty inspired me to succeed, but I’m not so sure those clichés are true.
When I knew I would see her again, I didn’t want to see her again. kill her with kindness. Instead, I thought about revenge. Specifically, the revenge look.
At Jack and Catherine’s wedding, Sarah and I didn’t speak at all, but I made sure to stand directly in her line of sight throughout the evening, the dance floor lights hitting me like a vengeful disco ball. My revenge gown was a fringed, silver sequined figure-hugging gown with a keyhole cutout that started at the jugular vein and ended at the belly button. I know I look incredible (a few boys even told me I would fight for their attention in high school) – but even better, I Felt Also incredible.
Of course, I’m not the first woman to be scorned for viewing fashion as an emotional weapon. In 1994, Princess Diana famously made the move in a strapless black dress after her husband publicly admitted he was having an affair. But over the weekend, Maddie Perez (Alexa Demie) and Jules Vaughn (Hunter Schafer) continued this wonderful little tradition EuphoriaTwo friends attend the gorgeous wedding of their mutual enemies, Cassie Howard and Nate Jacobs.
Skin is a theme for both characters: Maddy wears a bright green backless dress with a rosary hanging above her hips, while Jules wears an Acne Studios dress that artfully only hangs down the body only Cover her breasts. It looked perfect – the sharp eye contact between Maddie, Jules and the not-so-happy couple, so familiar.
So wear this piece of clothing (or a piece of fabric artfully made into a piece of clothing). I promise you won’t regret it.
