Still, for fans of both actors, this week’s news doubles as a romance reveal—and I can barely put into words how chic I think that is. On a related note, I have a feeling we won’t hear anything about their kids until their first dark but surprisingly uplifting gruntcore movie hits Sundance in 2048.
Apparently, the internet is a darkening cesspool, and I’ve seen some truly bizarre discussions online about Plaza’s statement, a year after the tragic death of her estranged husband, writer-director Jeff Baena. I couldn’t be more clear on this: Haters, live your life! When and how a celebrity you’ll never meet in real life decides to start a family is none of your business — and frankly, being ungenerous about Plaza and Abbott’s good news feels like the height of metasocial unpleasantness.
Anyone who has experienced grief firsthand will tell you that there is no perfect timetable for “getting over it.” When you have to say goodbye to someone close to you, the best you can hope for is to leave room for joy even in mourning—and that’s exactly what the Plaza seems to be doing.
