Kindred Lubeck—Taylor Swift’s Engagement Ring Designer—Launches Artifex Bridal

Jeweler Kindred Lubeck’s life changed instantly last August when he proposed to Taylor Swift (in a post on Instagram) with a brilliant-cut old-mine diamond set in a hand-carved gold ring from Lubeck’s brand, Artifex Fine.

Lübeck’s unique style—marked by one-of-a-kind antique gemstones and intricate hand-engraved work—captured Swift’s attention. “I just think her stuff is so cool,” Swift said Heart Breakfast with Jamie Thixton and Emma Bunton last year. “When I saw the ring, I felt [gasps]’I know who did it! ‘”

While Lubeck’s work is still hard to come by, it’s getting a little easier thanks to her new collection, Artifex Bridal by Kindred Lubeck. On April 10 at 4 pm EST, Lubeck will launch a new limited edition collection of engagement rings, wedding rings and other fine jewelry designed to accompany brides through their engagement and beyond. These include a wedding band with channel-set baguette stones and milgrain piping, a tennis bracelet with a hand-engraved sunburst pattern and invisible clasp, and her favorite, a 3.63-carat old mine diamond surrounded by a halo of engraved smaller diamonds and hoop details on the ring.

While it’s not a widely available series, the limited-edition model will allow potential customers to access Lubeck’s work without having to join a long waiting list for custom pieces. Currently, she plans to do about 25 drops per quarter. Although she will repurpose the designs, each ring will be unique. The body of each ring will be remade to accommodate the new, hand-selected stones. “We’re not interested in replicating them exactly,” she said. “You won’t meet anyone with the exact same ring as you.”

After the overwhelming response to Swift’s engagement ring, Lübeck decided to launch Artifex Bridal. The newfound awareness of her work meant there was a lot of interest from Swifties and others, but her business wasn’t built to meet that kind of large-scale demand, nor did she expect it to be. “Mass production goes completely against the ethos of the brand,” she said. Still, she hopes to expand her bridal business beyond custom pieces, of which she currently produces about 10 pieces a year. “There’s only so much I can endure right now [with] My custom commissions,” Lübeck said.
