“I kind of let the algorithm take me on a journey,” Emma Chamberlain said. She was referring to her slow and steady process of buying antiques online. “The internet – it’s a mess. It’s toxic, but I’ll use the algorithm to my advantage if I can.”
However, when her schedule allows, the podcaster and businesswoman enjoys shopping in person. On Tuesday’s show, she revealed some of her favorite parts of doing it penetrateguest hosts Margaux Anbouba and Christian Allaire.
“When I was in Chinatown in New York,” Chamberlain said, calling out James Viloria. “And all the little shops in that little mall.”
Back home in Los Angeles, Chamberlain has a popular spot she frequents: the Rose Bowl Flea Market. “It’s so wonderful, it’s so huge, it’s so overwhelming, but it’s cool,” Chamberlain said. “It feels very L.A. and has everything in one place.”
When Chamberlain found something, she didn’t haggle—in fact, she did just the opposite. “I love tipping,” she explains. “I’m so grateful I found it. I thought, let’s just take full price. There’s an extra $10 here. I’m so lucky. I don’t want to buy something unless I’m willing to spend more than it’s worth.”
Chamberlain will return in May this year FashionMet Gala Carpet FashionSpecial Correspondent, a position she has held for many years. “I’m not looking forward to anything. Every year I say, ‘This could be the last year,'” she said. “I’m grateful that I’m able to do this.”
Also in this episode, Fashion Last Saturday, Runway magazine’s Irene Kim and producer Alex Jhamb Burns took listeners on a tour of the second annual Vogue Vintage Market. The two chatted with people in line, some of whom had been waiting for hours, about their dream vintage pieces… and what they ended up walking out of the house with.
