There was a time—from the 2000s to the early 2010s—when a humble pencil skirt could transport its wearer from the office to the club. Jennifer Lopez longs for those simpler days.
Yesterday, J.Lo tried to get back to her 9-to-9 style during an outing in Los Angeles. While shopping with her daughter in Beverly Hills, Lopez tucked a loose black satin tank top into a tight black pencil skirt that fell to mid-calf. The rest of her look was also perfect for the after-get off work office worker: She paired it with a pair of black pointed-toe flats, oversized black square sunglasses and a tiny black Lady Dior bag.
Lopez isn’t the only one keen on reviving the pencil skirt. Designers have been sending form-fitting knee-length skirts down the runways for the past few seasons. For spring 2026, Anthony Vaccarello paired a black leather skirt from Saint Laurent with a cotton poplin top, Haider Ackermann opted for a shimmering snake interpretation in Tom Ford, and Simone Bellotti went minimalist in Jil Sander.
The latest season also proved that pencil skirts are not going away yet: Marc Jacobs continues to play with proportions, a workwear staple. Meanwhile, Julian Klausner experimented with his signature print clash at Dries Van Noten, while Demna paid homage to Gucci’s 1990s roots.
