Ruthie Rogers’s Guide to London

“Whenever I write a book, we’ve written 14 cookbooks now Table 4 at The River Cafe: Conversations about food and life (Gallery) – It was a real collaboration to work with such amazing designers and photographers,” says Ruthie Rogers, chef and co-founder of London’s Michelin-starred Riverside Café. “It’s great to live in a city where design, photography and writing are so valued. Rogers, who has been awarded an MBE and CBE, moved to the capital from New York, where she lived in Paris while her late husband Richard Rogers designed the Center Pompidou with Renzo Piano, before moving back to London to open the famed Italian restaurant on the Thames with the late Rose Gray in 1987. Her latest book is based on her podcast, in which she talks to Emerald Fennell, Keira Guests including Knightley, Bono, Olivia Colman and Victoria Beckham discuss food memory on Table 4.

Dining room: Can I say riverside cafe? The staff gave me a test for my birthday last summer. The first question is, how many chocolate avengers cakes have we sold? [Answer: More than 48,000] The second question is, who eats here most often? The answer is me. While I love exploring new restaurants, this is one of my favorites.

breakfast: Marchese in Mayfair. Walking in here is like walking into a café in Milan. You can have a plate of ham, or scrambled eggs and pancetta, or simply drink a cup of espresso.

For your caffeine fix: Monocle Café on Chiltern Street, opened by my friend Tyler Brûlé who founded monocle Magazine. This is a beautiful little shop with great coffee.

dessert: My favorite dessert is ice cream. Sometimes after get off work, I would stop at Venchi, ask the taxi to wait for me, and then I would run in and catch a ride Nociora Gelato with whipped cream. It felt like I was back in the Val d’Orcia.

Late night canteen: Maroush, located on Beauchamp Place. It’s open all night and you can taste the best shawarma, hummus and fattoush.
