On the sixth day of the new year, usually a depressing day for corporate employees, Enhypen prepared a feast for their fans. Before the release of the seventh mini-album, Sin: disappearthe band consisting of Heeseung, Jay, Jake, Sunghoon, Sunoo, Jungwon and Ni-Ki invited select members of the press to a virtual listening session, during which the members shared their favorite tracks (“Knife,” “Stealer” and “Sleep Tight” among them) as well as some of the global inspirations for their songs.
Read on for all our thoughts on this new release from the group.
- We wait in Zoom for Enhypen to join the call. It’s 9am in New York, which means it’s 11pm in South Korea where the members are. Very late but I guess when you have a new album out in a week it’s all work and not play!
- Members join in and make some introductions. Of course, attendees already knew who they were, but it was pretty cute. They’re all casual streetwear but still look super cool.
- They are about to play their first track produced by Jack called “The Beginning”. Jay begins by explaining that it’s a narrative song that helps set the tone for the rest of the album.
- The second song is titled “No Way Back.” It has an R&B sound but features indie rock musicians So! YoON! – A surprising combination that actually works very well.
- “Knife” is the album’s lead single and is incredibly catchy. It has a heavy focus on hip hop, which seems to be the main style of this album. I really like this change from the childish, poppy vibe of the band’s previous releases.
- Now they’re playing a song called “Stealer,” which is by far my favorite song. This is inspired by Latin, something Jungwon explained the team had always wanted to try. This suits them perfectly!
- We now move onto the B-side track titled “Big Girls Don’t Cry”. Ni-ki says it’s one of his favorite songs: “We love all the tracks on the album, but for this particular track, it captured our ears from the moment we heard it. It’s so exquisite in its melody and sound.” I have to agree, and definitely think this will be a huge fan favourite. Usually B-side songs don’t get much promotion, but the band promises that the song will be a solid performer once the album hits the road.
- “Lost Island” breaks away from much of the hip-hop and R&B sound of the rest of the album; it feels poppy. I think this One of them might actually be my favorite song. The melody and chorus are both infectious.
- We’ll definitely see the members getting more involved in the creative and production process with their seventh album. Their song “Sleep Tight” was composed by Jake and Heeseung co-wrote the lyrics. Before they played the song, Jack described it as “the feeling you get after escaping from someone or somewhere.”
- Audiences – myself included – absolutely loved “Sleep Tight.” I can see why this is the last “official” song on the album; the next one is another narrative track that ties the project together and previews what’s next for the team.
- It’s no surprise that the group ended 2025 with a slew of awards at the Asian Awards. My three favorite songs are “Stealer,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Lost Island,” but this is truly a can’t-skip album. I’m glad I can listen to it again myself now.
